The AIRE Centre is a specialist charity whose mission is to promote awareness of European law rights and assist marginalised individuals and those in vulnerable circumstances to assert those rights. It has provided advice and information to more than 8000 individuals on their rights under the two European legal orders (European Union law and the European Convention on Human Rights).
Interns are usually expected to assist the Legal Director and Legal Project Managers with all aspects of preparatory work for the AIRE centre’s legal advice service and cases pending before the UK Tribunals and the ECtHR. This includes legal research in support of cases, corresponding with the client, the Court, or other legal professionals, accompanying the legal team during hearings, keeping effective files. In addition to the above, interns may be requested to assist with undertaking research for articles, both for publications of the AIRE Centre, and for outside journals/publications, helping out with projects in which the AIRE Centre is asked to take part, or attending meetings/conferences/seminars on behalf of the AIRE Centre. In addition, interns are expected to answer the advice line which runs 3 days a week. Interns will not be expected to give advice over the phone, but will be instructed on how to take down the clients' details and log into our system for the Director to review.
