DESCRIPTION OF THE STEP TRAINEESHIP PROVIDER

Fenix is a Greek NGO that provides legal support to people who seek asylum. We do this
with three interconnected projects: 1) providing holistic legal representation in Athens, 2) providing individual and group legal information sessions on Lesvos, and 3) advocating for structural change through several pathways.

TYPE OF THE STEP TRAINEESHIP PROVIDER

TRAINEESHIP TASKS

In Lesvos:
- Provide group legal information sessions on the asylum process and people’s rights and family reunification, to people seeking asylum both in camp and in collaboration with NGOS outside of camp within community centres
- Be responsible for the updating and maintenance of the content of the above information sessions
- Conduct outreach for the information sessions and register peoples attendance
- Arrange some logistics of the information sessions
- If it is decided to create new sessions or workshops to meet people's needs, the ILO will support the creation and present new content.
- Where required, support the ILE in updating and delivering Capacity Bridging training to other NGOs on the asylum procedure.
- Be involved in advocacy and communication tasks such as gathering data, writing or reviewing reports and contributing towards social media and other communication channels.
- All field based roles within Fenix are responsible, where required, to conduct Human Rights in order for Fenix to be able to support up to date information about the context.
- Supporting with general operational tasks of the Fenix Lesvos In Athens
- Suport the lawyers with background research for cases, administrative tasks, screening for intake
- Support the protection officer with gathering documentation for clients' cases Fenix prides itself for always adapting to the changin and needs, and responsibilities may change during the time of the agreement.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Traineeship offers in both Athens and Mytilene.

Refugee / Asylum Law - advanced
EU law - advanced

Good command of Greek, French, Arabic, Farsi/Dari, Amharic, Lingala,
Somali are a big assest

We are looking for:
- An independent and adaptable person who can work in a rapidly changing and unstable
environment
- Someone with excellent communication skills
- Bachelor and/or Master degrees in law, preferably with a focus on Asylum Law.
- Being a licensed lawyer is a great asset
- Experience with working with vulnerable populations is essential, and having worked in a camp context is an asset
- Due to the complex nature of the role and context, ideally someone who can stay for six months, but a minimum of three months is required
- Ability to work under pressure and to coordinate multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
- Fluency in English is essential with a dual fluency in French being a benefit.
Additional competence in Arabic, Farsi/Dari, Somali or Greek is an asset.

- Experience with working with cultural mediators is an asset
- Able to self-sponsor their stay
Candidate must have the right to stay in the EU for three months or longer
Candidate with a valid driving licence is a benefit
