Traineeship Application Form

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. You must be a member of ELSA. Only in case there is no existing ELSA Group in your country, you might apply with the “External Applicant” status).

2. You must fill in the entire Traineeships Application Form with truthful, accurate and updated information in English (including the motivation letter(s) and any attachments, e.g. the CV).

3. You may apply for a maximum of three Traineeship opportunities. You may not apply for opportunities that are offered in the country of your respective ELSA membership unless the opportunity is offered by ELSA International (cf. the Traineeship code “TN-EI/00”).

4. You must submit the Traineeships Application Form before the 4th of May 2024, 23:59 CET. Late submissions are not accepted.

5. You may be contacted by the Professional Development Officer(s) of the ELSA Group of your membership to verify the information you have provided in the Application Form. You must respond promptly or otherwise, your application will not be approved or forwarded to the Traineeship Provider(s).

6. You may never contact the Traineeship Provider(s) yourself directly before the selection results are communicated by ELSA to you. Failure to comply will disqualify your application.

7. ELSA communicates the selection results with the outcome of your application directly via email by the 7th of June 2024.

Academic background
Indicate the highest level of education completed by the start of the Traineeship(s) applied for.

• Undergraduate: You still study towards your first university degree (cf. LL.B.).
• Graduate Bachelor: You have completed your first university degree or you have completed 180 ECTS
(3-4 years of study).
• Graduate Master: You have completed a master degree (e.g. LL.M., 1-2 years of additional study)
• Postgraduate: You pursue further education, e.g. PhD.
For each degree you hold or are currently completing, indicate:

(1) The name of the degree in English;
(2) The full name of the educational institution (in English) and the country;
(3) The start year and the (expected) year of graduation.

E.g. Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), University of Turku, Finland, 2018 – (2021)
Languages Please indicate which language skills you can talk and the level. • Basic = having an overall understanding of the language, being able to communicate in simple terms and engage in routine tasks (A1/A2) • Good = having a deeper understanding of the language, being able to communicate even some abstract concepts (B1/B2) • Fluent = being able to communicate with spontaneity and ease even in technical discussions in the field of the person’s professional/academic specialisation (C1/C2).

Legal skills Please indicate which legal skills you possess as a Trainee. • General: You have completed a basic/introductory course on the subject, and thus you are familiar with the contingent themes of this subject; • Advanced: Building on the “general” level, you have deeper knowledge in the subject by having completed additional work (e.g. work experience, thesis, moot court, etc.) Note that you must be able to provide proof of the legal skills and levels when your application is being verified by ELSA. You do not have to indicate each and every legal skill you possess but rather you are encouraged to choose below the skills required by the Traineeship(s) you are applying for and the ones that may be related to the same legal field. You may elaborate your legal skills and expertise further better in your motivation letter and CV which are examined the closest by the Traineeship Providers in the end.
Below, provide briefly evidence in support of each and every of the legal skills you claimed above.

E.g. "Contract Law – Advanced: Completed a compulsory module in law school. Participated in a Summer ELSA Law School on Contract Law in 2019. Working since August 2019 at a law firm with commercial contracts."
